HAPPY RESURRECTION DAY | Pastor Josh Lagesse

Dive into weekly messages about God and Faith from local Clergy.

Valley View Baptist Church-Pastor Josh Lagesse.

Before becoming a Christian, I looked forward to celebrating Easter because of the colored eggs and the chocolate bunnies. My family is like most families: We would dress up, go to Church, take pictures, and then eat the treasures from our Easter basket. It wasn’t until I became a Believer in Jesus Christ that I truly found the meaning of Easter. It’s not about colored eggs, the Easter bunny, or chocolate bunnies. It’s about Jesus Christ rising from the dead!

If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, then His words are not trustworthy, and our faith is in vain. However, we believe He rose from the dead and that His words are trustworthy. Through Him and Him alone can a person be saved! If people place their faith in Jesus Christ, they are forgiven for their sins and receive eternal life and new life today.

Have you put your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior?

How does Jesus rising from the dead prove that He is God? I could write about whether He rose from the dead, but the evidence overwhelmingly supports that He did indeed rise from the dead. If you doubt His Resurrection, I encourage you to research His factual Resurrection prayerfully.

So, how does Jesus rising from the dead prove that He is God then? Jesus said that He was God in many ways, but the fact that He rose from the dead makes His claim trustworthy. Have you ever met someone that has died and come back to life?

Now, where does Jesus say that He was God? Many people from different religions ask this question. It’s a good and valid question. However, it isn’t hard to answer once you read the Bible. In Exodus 3:13-15 we read about an encounter that Moses had with God. In that encounter, Moses asked God what His Name was. God told him His Name was “I AM WHO I AM.” He also told Moses to tell the Israelites, “I AM has sent me to you.” Why is this important, and how does this prove the Divinity of Jesus Christ? In Gospel according to John, we read that Jesus referred to Himself as “I AM” 12 times.

There are 5 absolute “I AM” statements and there are 7 metaphorical “I AM” statements. Jesus identified Himself as “I AM” 12 times and in doing so was telling the people around Him that He was in fact GOD! The Jews of His day would have been very familiar with Exodus 3 and the encounter that Moses had with God.

We have been reading about the 7 metaphorical “I AM” statements for the past two weeks. This week, we will conclude our series, and we invite you to join us as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! We will have a Sunrise Service at 6 am and our regular Sunday Morning Worship Service at 11 am.

We look forward to worshiping God with you through prayer, singing, preaching, and teaching His Word. If you can’t join us in person, you can join us and worship God online. We hope to see you on Sunday!

May God bless you and keep you!
