SLUSD employee arrested for stealing over $14,000 from district.

SHOW LOW- According to the Show Low Police Department, an employee at Show Low Unified School District (SLUSD) admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from the district.

On January 9, SLUSD representatives contacted the Show Low Police Department to report a missing fuel card and fraudulent transactions on the card.

The Show Low Police Department responded and started an investigation that lasted about nine days and discovered the missing fuel card was used locally.

“Our investigation found the card being used at a local gas station and the person using the card to fuel up their vehicle was identified as 28-year-old Mai Lee-Xiong of St. Johns, AZ, a school district employee,” explained Cameron Peterson, Show Low Police Department Community Relations.

According to Lee-Xiong’s reported LinkedIn account, she worked with the Apache County Recorders Office as an Administrative Assistant 111, and migrated over to SLUSD and worked as the Student Accounts Finance Specialist. The time she spent working for SLUSD is not known.

In November of 2022, Lee-Xiong was charged with aggravated assault-adult on a minor, influencing witness testimony, and assault-touched to injure. On March 21, 2023, Apache County Superior Court documents show all prosecution was suspended for 12 months so Lee-Xiong could attend the Apache County Diversion Program. However, the Apache County Superior Court dismissed all charges without prejudice on May 4, 2023.

School officials also discovered Lee-Xiong charged over $14,000 in transactions on a district Walmart credit card between August of 2023 to January of 2024.

Show Low Police explained, on January 18, Lee-Xiong was interviewed by Show Low Police officers and admitted to fraudulently using the fuel and credit cards to benefit her family and herself.

Lee-Xiong has yet to return calls to Mountain Daily Star reporters for comment.

Lee-Xiong was arrested and booked on the following charges: 35-301.1/Public Money – Personal Use. 13-2102A1/Theft of a Credit Card.13-2310A/Fraudulent Schemes/Artifices.  13-1802A1/Theft.
