Scholarship Opportunity | White Mountain Audubon Society

White Mountain Audubon Society is offering the Bob and Loretta Pena Memorial Scholarship of up to $2000 to a graduating high school senior from Navajo or Apache County in 2024.

If you know someone that meets the qualifications below, click on the link: Scholarship.

  1. Are a senior who is attending a high school in Navajo or Apache County and are completing your final year of the high school curriculum.
  2. Are making satisfactory progress toward graduation.
  3. Are planning to continue your education in 2024 by attending a university, college, junior college, technical school, or other recognized training program.
  4. Are pursuing a degree and career which has the potential of having a significant positive effect on the environment.
  5. Complete a 300-700 word typed, double-spaced essay about higher education and career plans, discussing your commitment to work and activities that already have or will impact conservation, resource management and the environment.
  6. Agree to a possible personal interview conducted by the WMAS Scholarship Committee or Board of Directors who selects finalists by a majority vote to be recorded in official Minutes.
  7. Agree to the publication of your award and essay in Audubon and/or news publications.
  8. Agree to provide follow-up information to an Audubon mentor during your education.

The White Mountain Audubon Society meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 at the White Mountain Nature Center in Pinetop-Lakeside from April to November. Meetings feature guest speakers who focus on birds and the environment. They are free and all are welcome.
