SPRINGERVILLE – Town Mayor Shelly Reidhead has resigned, effective today.

According to Ted Soltis, Springerville Interim Town Manager, Reidhead’s resignation is valid and took effect today.

A group of Springerville residents has been working to recall Reidhead, and that has been underway since the recent DPS investigation and issues stemming from the Round Valley Police Department. Leiha Castillo produced a recall that gathered over 100 signatures and delivered them to Apache County in October; the required number was 79 to recall Reidhead.

Reidhead, who has served as mayor since 2023, has left the town scrambling. The Springerville Town Council will need to produce a new leadership succession plan in accordance with town policy. The next step could be to appoint the vice mayor or a council member as acting mayor until a formal vote or appointment is held.

“This is justice for the town of Springerville,” said a resident.
