APACHE COUNTY- The Apache County Board of Supervisors has voted unanimously to remove indicted county attorney, Michael Whiting, from office.

The three-person board of supervisors consists of Dr. Joe Shirley Jr., Alton Joe Shepherd, and Nelson Davis. 

They met Thursday in St. Johns, Arizona, and voted unanimously to vacate Whiting from office, effective Friday.

On November 1, Whiting’s law license is set to be temporarily suspended by the Arizona State Bar while they investigate complaints filed against him.

Joy and Michael Whiting are appearing on the ballot unopposed, but Michael Whiting has two challengers that are write-in candidates. If one write-in challenger gets enough votes, that person could become the next Apache County attorney.

Apache County Attorney Michael Whiting was indicted on several felony and misdemeanor counts, including harassment, sending a threatening or anonymous letter, misuse of public monies, theft, conflict of interest, and stealing, destroying, altering, or secreting public records.
