Have you wrestled with God? | Pastor Josh Lagesse

Dive into weekly messages about God and Faith from the local Clergy.

Valley View Baptist Church-Pastor Josh Lagesse.

I grew up in Savannah, GA, where the weather was hot and humid. So, how did I make it to a dry and cold area like Snowflake, AZ? After graduating from High School, I joined the U.S. Navy. While transitioning back into the civilian lifestyle, I realized that I had been wrestling with God my entire life. After a series of events, I realized that I needed God, and He changed my life from the inside out.

I wrestled with God about doing it my way or His way. I wrestled with God about how I should live my life and what I should do with the life He gave me. Like most people, I wanted to be the Lord of my life. I had dreams, aspirations, and a plan. However, my dreams, aspirations, and plans didn’t consider God. It was all about me and had nothing to do with God. It wasn’t until I believed and committed my life to Jesus Christ that I started to live fully. I began to see that God had always been present in my life and my need for Him to be the Lord of my life. If He is the Lord of the universe, then I concluded that He can direct my life way better than I can.

I then moved to Arlington, TX, and served in various ministries. Since I have been a Christian, I’ve wanted to go to a place of need. A place that needed the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. A place that most people wouldn’t like to go to. However, as the years passed, I grew comfortable in Arlington, TX. It has everything that you need and more. But God started working on my heart and renewing my desire to serve Him wherever He would send me. So after praying, visiting, and receiving confirmation, my family and I moved to Snowflake, AZ, and joined Valley View Baptist Church.

We have begun a journey through the Bible at Valley View Baptist Church. It should take us about three years to read the whole Bible collectively. The Bible is God’s Word to us, and we believe reading and living it is essential. This week, the Church will read Genesis 31-40, and I have prayerfully selected a passage from our reading to preach this Sunday. This Sunday, I will preach from Genesis 32:22- 32, where Jacob wrestled with God.

Can you imagine living your life and God shows up out of nowhere? If you are a Christian, then you have experienced that. You were living your life selfishly and sinfully. Then God showed up and transformed your whole life like He did mine. If you are not a Christian, I pray that God intervenes in your life. So that you would see your need for Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior; it’s the most crucial decision that you will make in your life.

Join us this Sunday to hear how Jacob wrestled with God. Our passage will be Genesis 32:22- 32, so please feel free to read ahead. We have Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and Sunday Morning Service at 11 a.m. We also have Sunday and Wednesday evening Services at 6 p.m.

We look forward to worshiping God with you through prayer, singing, preaching, and teaching His Word. If you can’t join us in person, you can join us and worship God online. We hope to see you Sunday!

May God bless you and keep you,

Pastor Josh Lagesse
