70th annual Taylor Rodeo | Celebrate the Taylor Way

TAYLOR AZ-Every year, around Independence Day the small town of Taylor, Arizona, hosts a rodeo event that captures the patriotic spirit of “Wild West Pioneers.” The Taylor Arizona Independence Day and Night Rodeo was a blend of traditional rodeo sports, community activities, and a unique tradition of anvil launching that sets it apart as an event that was an excellent experience.

The Rodeo events were packed with bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, bronc riding and steer wrestling.

One of the most anticipated events at the Taylor Arizona Independence Day and Night Rodeo is the launching of the anvil. This unique tradition involves packing an anvil with black powder, lighting the fuse, and watching as the anvil soars into the sky. The anvil launching serves as a symbolic celebration of freedom and a testament to the pioneering spirit of several generations of Taylors founding families.

You can read about the Taylor Rodeo history on the Taylor Rodeo Association.

Eddie Hancock’s memory was honored and his contributions to the Taylor Rodeo was recognized. Mr. Hancock made the rodeo what it is today. He passed away on August 19, 2023 and his memory will live on in the hearts of Taylor, Arizona residents.

Walter and Kristi Blackman were honored for their work with adding bleachers to the arena. Its because of the Blackmans hard work that the Taylor Rodeo was able to seat more patrons.
