HOLBROOK-On February 26, Joseph City Fire Department Dive Team, Gila County Search and Rescue Dive Team, and Winslow Fire Department recovered a man who jumped into the water the night before and did not resurface.

On February 25, at approximately 6:17 pm, Navajo County Deputies were dispatched to the Chevlon Canyon Bridge as the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting that two individuals had fallen near the Chevlon Canyon Bridge off Territorial Road. First responders located Alvina Mann, (36) of Winslow, who was rescued from the rocks, as she had fallen in an attempt to reach the male subject. The female was flown to a medical facility to treat severe injuries.

Joseph City Fire Department, Winslow Fire and Medical, and Gila County Search and Rescue were called to assist with locating the male. They were unable to locate the male subject that night and resumed search efforts the following morning. “Initial indications show that Yazzie jumped from the area surrounding the bridge. He was located approximately 18 feet under water in the same general area he entered the water,” said Tori Gorman, Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer.

“Thank you to our partnering agencies Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Rescue, Joseph City Fire and Medical, Action Medical, Gila County Search and Rescue and Dive Team, and Guardian Air for their assistance in this matter,” said Navajo County Sheriff’s Office.
