SPRINGERVILLE — Update: One person was killed Wednesday afternoon after a fight with officers and discharging a firearm at the Round Valley Police Department, according to press releases issued by the Town of Springerville.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Round Valley Police Department, located at 418 E. Main Street in Springerville.
Town officials said the shooting occurred at approximately 12:50 p.m. In a separate release referencing the investigation, the incident time was listed as approximately 1:00 p.m. No law enforcement officers, town staff, or officials were injured.
According to the press release sent by Interm Town Manager Ted Soltis, officers were attempting to arrest a subject inside the police department when the individual began fighting with officers. During the struggle, the subject produced and discharged a firearm. In response, a Round Valley Police Department officer returned fire, striking the subject.
The subject was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Town of Springerville stated that the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division is investigating the shooting at the request of the Round Valley Police Department. The Major Incident Division was created by state law in 2022 and is required to investigate, or oversee an independent investigation of, critical incidents involving law enforcement use of force.
